Carpool (also known as car-sharing, ridesharing, lift-sharing and covoiturage), is the shared use of a car by the driver and one or more passengers, usually for commuting. Carpool arrangements and schemes involve varying degrees of formality and regularity. Formal carpool projects have been around in a structured form since the mid-1970s.

Canadians’ reliance on the single occupancy vehicle (SOV) as their preferred choice of transportation continues to contribute to global warming. According to Environment Canada, overall transportation represents the largest single source of Canada’s greenhouse gas emissions, accounting for 27% of the total.

Carpool reduces the costs involved in repetitive or long distance driving by sharing cars, sharing rental charges, or paying the main car owner. Some countries have introduced high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes to encourage carpooling and use of public transport, to combat rising traffic congestion. In wartime, carpool was encouraged to save oil. In reducing the number of cars on the road, carpool decreases pollution and the need for parking space, and in a global perspective, reduces greenhouse gas emissions. Shared driving carpooling can also reduce driving stress.

The purpose of site findcarpool.ca is to help carpoolers find sutiable carpool or rideshare.
The site is intended to by used by Canada residents only.
The main idea of finding a carpool is to match carpool start and end points using geographic search. Latitudes and longitudes of carpool start and end points determined using Google Maps APIs, and then a request is being sent to the database to find any carpool with latitude and longitude same as desired or within selected Radius.
In addition to start and end points the carpool matching process is using weekday, start and return time.
A carpooler can limit the search to their company/school only by providing a name of the company/school.

Number of defect fixes related to message exchange between members. I had fixed some problems discovered in process of accepting new carpool/rideshare members or joining carpool/rideshare. Start searching for carpool/rideshare!

Great news! The site now supports Rideshare in addition to Carpool. Members can create both Carpool (regular trips) or Rideshare (occasional or one-time only trips).

Several defects for message exchange are fixed. Carpool owners and potential member can send message to each other. Upon accepting invitation or allowing new member to join, Carpool post will be changed to active Carpool.

• Improve ability to join Carpool or invite members to carpool. A member can click on Join/Invite icon right from their home page.
• Location of the main toolbar changed from horisontal to vertical, so existing members do not have to scroll down the page in order to login.

Info field added to Edit My Carpool page. Member can add comment/additional info to their carpool post.

Profile maintenance page changed. Members can now change their carpooling type from Carpool Driver to Carpool Passenger and vice versa.
